Conservatory Addition

Passive Solar Gain

A contemporary solution to an age-old question, where can I go during the cold winter months to relax, read, absorb vitamin D, and be connected with nature, a place that both welcomes the elements and protects against them.

In this design solution, we created a space that uses thermal mass and dark colors to absorb and radiate the suns natural heat, natural ventilation to control temperature and offer fresh air, secondary radiant floor heating to add a touch of warmth on the toes, large expansive windows to bath in sunlight, and complimentary exposed wood structure to tie it all together. A real fireplace centered in the space acts as both function and aesthetic.

Coupling the exposed wood structure with finished millwork and rough chopped firewood adds diversity making the space feel like it was grown and not built.

Currently in the approval phase, awaiting permitting, this project is set to be a wonderful place for its owner to live and play in.
